Introduction

Welcome! The World Wide Web (Web) and the Internet have opened up a whole new avenue for communication. The Internet can be thought of as how the information is transmitted and the Web as how the information is viewed. This medium provides tremendous outreach opportunities for congregations. A church can now communicate specific information to its own congregation as well as providing outreach to a worldwide audience. The information that you communicate is up to you.

But how is this done? How does one go about putting together the information to include on the Web? Designing a brochure or pamphlet to be printed and mailed to a distribution list is one thing but what are the considerations for designing a Web site?

The workshop today will provide a basic introduction to Designing a Web Page for Your Congregation. This workshop is not intended to make you Webmasters or to teach you the mechanics of writing HTML, but instead, to offer suggestions for designing Web pages for your congregation that are usable and effective. The workshop will discuss general human interface principles that you can apply to designing Web pages that will fit the needs of your congregation.
